Churches in Shelby County pull together as need arises, as do individuals in the community, however, one upcoming annual event will need even more support.

Shelby Touched Twice 2023 will occur March 25. The event is typically held each year, however, two years were canceled during the height of COVID-19.

The purpose is to express Christian love, offer spiritual guidance, and meet needs. “We are a group of Christ-centered, faith-based churches sharing Jesus’ love through a clinic setting,” according to organizers.

The group hopes meeting a need will plant a seed “for a relationship with Jesus.”

Clinic

The clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Shelbyville First Baptist Church, 1516 Midland Trail, Shelbyville, on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

In typical years, supplies run out by late afternoon, but that depends on attendance.

There will be, prayer time, and medical screenings such as dental screening and treatment, vision screening, chiropractic screening; and services like a hot meal, haircuts, a family photo, children’s activities, music and worship, and a food and toiletries pantry.

Organizers ask anyone who isn’t feeling well to avoid this event.

Changes

One change this year is that the group will not offer clothing as part of its ministry.

Although churches and individuals donate to this cause, they need help from the community. Touched Twice is also asking individuals or businesses to sponsor a family for $40. That amount provides food, toiletries, a hot meal and other services.

Folks can donate through Venmo (see QR code), or send donations to Shelby Touched Twice, c/o Salem Baptist Church, 8311 Mt. Eden Rd., Shelbyville, KY 40065. Make checks payable to Shelby Touched Twice.

Organizers hope to have 250 families sponsored through this campaign.

Volunteers

Touched Twice is considered a mission event, and the gathering needs about 500 “Christian volunteers” to serve folks who come to this event. The group designate volunteers “guest shepherds,” an adoptive friend of the family for the day.

For more information, call 502-437-9437 and leave a message. The call will be returned, according to organizers.
